"We don't have to be perfect to be in this class, but we do have to try." Jessie Bell, 1998 We call ourselves "The Best Second Grade" not to distinguish ourselves from other Second Grade Classes, but to identify our attitude and mindset when it comes to learning. We believe that every student is different, with a different level of ability academically, socially, athletically, etc. Each student is encouraged to be "The Best" that they can possibly be in each area of their lives. The Best Second Grade is a family. Just as any family works better when every member feels a sense of belonging, these students help each other feel accepted and safe, despite their differences. They have united around core classroom values and support one another's learning. These students enhance an environment that nurtures the learning process for every student, helping each to become his or her very best. Every student in our class embraces a basic respect for one another and a burning desire to help their fellow student to become the Best that they can be. |
